A Guide to Deep Cleaning Your Oven

The oven is the heart of the kitchen &  where we cook up delicious meals that bring mountains of happiness!

However, with frequent use, spills, splatters, and grease can accumulate, turning this essential appliance into a daunting cleaning task. Fear not, as we unveil the ultimate guide to deep cleaning your oven, restoring it to a pristine condition that enhances both its performance and your cooking experience.

  • Safety First: Before diving into the deep cleaning process, ensure your oven is disconnected from the power source. If your oven has a self-cleaning function, consult your manufacturer’s guidelines and follow their recommendations closely.
  • Gather Your Tools: Collect the necessary supplies, including rubber gloves, a face mask, a scrub brush or abrasive sponge, baking soda, white vinegar, water, a spray bottle, and microfiber cloths.
  • Prep the Interior: Remove oven racks, thermometer, and any other removable parts. Soak them in warm, soapy water to loosen grease and grime. While they soak, it’s time to tackle the interior of the oven.
  • Baking Soda Magic: Create a paste by mixing baking soda with water until it forms a spreadable consistency. Coat the interior surfaces, focusing on stubborn stains and heavily soiled areas. Allow the baking soda paste to sit overnight, breaking down grease and grime.
  • Wipe Down: The next day, use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe away the baking soda paste. Stubborn spots might require a little scrubbing with a scrub brush or abrasive sponge, but be gentle to avoid damaging the oven’s surface.
  • Vinegar Spray: Fill a spray bottle with equal parts white vinegar and water. Spray the interior surfaces lightly with the vinegar mixture, causing a gentle foaming reaction as it reacts with any remaining baking soda residue. Wipe down the interior again to remove any remaining residue.
  • Clean Oven Racks: Scrub the oven racks with a scrub brush or abrasive sponge to remove any remaining grease. Rinse them thoroughly and dry them before placing them back into the oven.
  • Sealed Burner Cleaning: For gas ovens with sealed burners, remove the burners and grates. Soak them in warm, soapy water for a few hours. Use a scrub brush to gently remove any stubborn residue. Rinse and let them dry before reassembling.
  • Exterior Shine: Wipe down the exterior surfaces of the oven using a damp cloth. Pay attention to knobs, handles, and any control panels. For stainless steel surfaces, use a stainless steel cleaner to restore the shine.
  • Vent and Filter Cleaning: If your oven has a vent or filter, remove it and clean it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. A clean vent ensures proper air circulation and prevents odours.
  • Reassemble and Test: Once all parts are clean and dry, reassemble the oven. Before using it again, turn it on at a low temperature for a short period to ensure any remaining cleaning product residues are burned off.

Whilst it might be a time-consuming task, the results are well worth the effort.
